Discrimination protectionsEdit

In January 2009, following the January 2009 Bolivian constitutional referendum, a new constitution took effect in Bolivia.[1] It prohibits discrimination based on sex, gender identity, and sexual orientation.[2]

President Evo Morales claimed at an April 2010 environmental conference that the consumption of chicken "causes baldness and homosexuality." His comments reportedly left thousands in the crowd hollering with laughter.[3]

Recognition of same-sex relationships Edit

The new constitution also limits both marriage and civil unions to heterosexual couples, though what opposite-sex civil unions are have not been established in the country.
